Hozan Ibushi teaware set

162.00

This teaware set is recommended for gyokuro and sencha teas. A set is made of shiboridashi teapot, samashi (water cooling dish) and two tea cups. It is crafted in Shigaraki, one of the oldest ceramic workshops in Japan. The tradition of ceramics in Shigaraki goes back to the time of the beginning of the tea ceremony. For Shigaraki pottery, clay from the bottom of lake Biwa is used. The tones and the patterns on the teaware are created naturally as a result of open fire firing. Because of the specifics of clay and firing methods, Shigaraki teaware is sturdier and has a rough surface. The inside of the dishes are glazed in white, which allows to evaluate the tea color more precisely and also makes a tea set easier to clean.
